Scoring a double hundred in One Day Internationals (ODIs) is a great achievement that certainly proves the ability, stamina, and strength of a batsman. Over the ages, many players have already inscribed their names into the annals of cricket history by making this mark so early.

  1. Ishan Kishan - 126 Balls: On December 10, 2022, Ishan Kishan scored a massive 200 which also made him the fastest double centurion in ODIs. In Chattogram, Kishan brought up two hundred runs against Bangladesh in just 126 balls making a new record, smashing Chris Gayle's previous record. 

  2. Glenn Maxwell - 128 Balls: The seventh of November, 2023 would be remembered for Maxwell's Afghani massacre. The Australian made his way through Afghanistan's bowling attack in the land of the 2023 Cricket World Cup as he accrued an innings of 201 runs off 128 balls. With this treasure, he became the first man to form a double century in ODIs while chasing a target. 

  3. Pathum Nissanka – 136 Balls : Pathum Nissanka of Sri Lanka made his way into the record books on February 9, 2024, against Afghanistan by reaching an impressive target of 210 runs without losing his wicket in 136 balls. This was the first double century made by a male Sri Lankan cricketer in ODIs, which underlines the greatness of the player along with his composure and skill. 

  4. Chris Gayle – 138 Balls: With blitzkrieg innings against Zimbabwe on February 24, 2015, Chris Gayle became the first individual to hit a double ton in a World Cup match. Scoring his 200th run in 138 balls, Gayle went on to make 215 runs, which comprised 10 fours and 16 sixes, which also allowed him to create a record for most sixes in ODIs. 

  5. Virender Sehwag -140 Balls : Virender Sehwag created history when he became the second Indian to score a double century in ODI on December 8, 2011. Winning the toss against the West Indies at Indore, Sehwag amassed his 200 runs in just 140 balls. His aggressive onslaught of 219 included 25 fours and 7 sixes and broke the old record for the highest individual score in ODIs at that time.

  6. Rohit Sharma - 151 balls: The one who ended up scoring the maximum number of runs (3 double centuries) in ODIs is Rohit Sharma. On November 2, 2013, he became the first Indian to have his name among those playing for double centuries in ODIs when he faced Australia in Bengaluru. His innings saw him making 209 runs with a then-record 16 sixes, thereby making it clear that he was a real deal to reckon with in limited-overs cricket. 

  7. Martin Guptill - 153 balls: Martin Guptill scored this double ton for New Zealand on March 21, 2015, against the West Indies as part of the 2015 Cricket World Cup. Guptill achieved that in 153 deliveries before hitting an unbeaten 237 runs in a contest where his score became the highest individual score ever in World Cup history.
